Indian Idol 6 is back with a bang on Sony Entertainment television in search of talented singers from all over India as well as extending its reach to Dubai this year. Amit Kumar, one of the Top 10 contestants of Indian Idol 2012 hails from Amritsar and made his way through the Delhi auditions singing ‘Aahun aahun’ from the movie ‘Love Aaj Kal’. Amit Kumar comes from a very poor family and has been learning classical music and doing shows to support his family.

Amit Kumar’s father owns a barber shop in Amritsar where he also helps sometimes. But singing is his life as Amit says. He had been watching Indian Idol from season 1 but could not follow all the episodes since they don’t have a television at home. Amit excels in Sufi singing which requires a blend of powerful voice and expression of emotions. His favourites are Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan and Master Saleem. Amit dreams to be a successful singer in his life and to live his dreams, he auditioned for Indian Idol 6.

Though coming from a poor family, Amit did not give up his aspirations of becoming a good singer and continued to take training in classical. It paid off when Judge Sunidhi Chauhan got up from her chair and hugged Amit during the Delhi auditions. Amit’s power packed performances in his strong Punjabi voice has fetched him quite some popularity in the latest season of Indian Idol and he  is getting appreciated all over the internet by people who follow the show all over the world! He believes his family to be his strength and respects his Guruji for being his lucky charm.

Amit Kumar stands to be one of the favourites of judge Sunidhi Chauhan. But surprisingly his favourite judge is Anu Malik, whose peppy songs he really likes to sing. A thin boy of 20 years coming all the way to Mumbai just to follow his dreams, Amit Kumar from Amritsar is singing in the galas to be one of the winners. His ‘Ainvayi ainvayi’ performance in the gala round earned good comments from all three judges. Personally, Amit wants to make a career in music and not run the family barber shop in Amritsar all his life. He likes watching horror movies and his weakness lies in trusting people easily that gets him betrayed later.
